Last week I received a big response from my post about how the ESG designations being made into regulations by alphabet agencies (like the SEC) are used to ruin small businesses and support large ones. The goal, apparently, is to consolidate all production into a compliant group of mega-corporations and eliminate the independent operators. That is, most small businesses that exist now are currently being squeezed out of existence through the use of new "climate based" regulations.
Here's the thing: The people who are pushing this plan the hardest ostensibly to "protect the planet" from humanity whom they believe is the cause of the "climate crisis" are the same ones who already control every-damn-thing from media to politics.
Protecting the environment is a noble cause and should be pursued by both individuals in our daily lives and also by businesses. But protecting the environment does not include IMHO un-elected bureaucrats imposing existentially fatal conditions on selected businesses they choose to target for compliance because of "climate change".
"For 1.3% of 3% of 0.04% of the atmosphere, we're going to commit economic suicide?"
The EPA and other alphabet agencies have been reeking havoc on businesses by imposing restrictions meant to forward an agenda that no elected officials have ever voted on:
"There are over 400 three-letter agencies in the U.S., many of which have been acting as their own government for over a hundred years, going unchecked while operating outside the Constitution. Their overreach has sought to control every industry from the top down, every consumer and small business, and blaze straight through the Federal Reserve and financial systems into everyone’s wallet."
Although the Supreme Court recently pulled on their reigns with this ruling:
“Congress certainly has not conferred a like authority upon EPA anywhere else in the Clean Air Act. The last place one would expect to find it is in the previously little-used backwater of Section 111(d).” – Chief Justice Roberts
The SEC however is doubling down with "climate disclosure requirements" that will not only affect listed companies which the SEC actually has authority to regulate but the madness extends to THEIR SUPPLIERS AND VENDORS TOO who aren't under the SEC's regulatory authority.
"Small businesses, normally outside the domain of the Securities and Exchange Commission, say the regulator’s proposal on climate disclosures will saddle them with a compliance burden they won’t be able to handle."
See what they're doing? By requiring the listed companies to require their own suppliers to comply, the SEC is indirectly regulating UNLISTED companies, got it?
"Small and independent businesses cannot afford the experts, accountants and lawyers needed to comply with complex government reporting regimes,” the National Federation of Independent Business said in a comment letter filed with the SEC."
As usual, all this really bad stuff is cloaked in warm, fuzzy phrases and slogans that invoke emotional responses like - "Don't you want to save the environment??"
They invent new virtuous "carbon targets" that ALL companies must now conform to in order to be considered virtuous - they really mean compliant.
"This collaborative initiative is building a resource hub of best practices, case studies, research, and actions that companies can use to lead a swift energy transition that benefits all involved." - WEF (World Economic Forum)
Which, if they get their way will lead to this:

I'm writing a bit more in today's post because this is an issue that resonates with many of my merchant clients.
I have some more information about this and other issues, I can also help to explain how your business can benefit from the changes going on now. Call me about your projects and let's explore the options together.
Have a great week everyone!
